About
The Phlebotomy Certificate will equip graduates with the academic knowledge and practical skills to undertake this procedure in a safe, professional, competent, autonomous and reflective manner and as part of a team of professionals providing person-centred care. The first part of the course is theoretical and consists of units and theory tests. The pass mark is 80%. You will gain a theory certificate upon passing this element. The second part is practical; where you put all the theory, you have learned into clinical practice to become a safe and skilled practitioner. This is taught either as a Live Zoom or face-to-face at one of our practical days. During this time, you will practice on simulation arms to get your hand-eye coordination perfect and then move on to live volunteers. You will be expected to produce a portfolio containing evidence of at least 10 successful live blood draws. These will be videoed and documented with witness testimonies as appropriate. This part is simply pass or fail. If you fail, you simply do it again until you pass. After completing both theory and practical elements, you will be awarded a fully accredited Phlebotomy Certificate, and your name, business and certification details will be added to our online register. You will also become a graduate member of the UCHSc and be able to use the designation MRUCHSc after your name and Registered Phlebotomist title. This course is mapped to level 3, for 5 credits or 50 hours. It follows the syllabus of Skills for Health NHS England & Scotland.
